The Jumbo That Never Was
Spied on Steve Forde's Facebook page is a photoshop mock-up of a proposed 22" Jumbo Jet Jaguar to be produced by Steve and Mark Nagata. Unfortunately it never saw the light of day due to licensing complications with TOHO and issues with the factory.
Now that Super 7 has somewhat paved the way for a re-birth of the "modern" Jumbo with the Shogun Stormtrooper, one has to ask, are others like the Jet Jaguar to follow? The answer is maybe, but probably not the Jet Jaguar. The problem is that these things are expensive to make. At $299, there are not too many kids that can afford the Shogun Trooper. Even if a kid has that kind of dough, he's more likely to spend it on a new XBOX 360 and Kinect than a Jumbo Stormtrooper. So that leaves the hardcore Star Wars fan of which there are legions plus the other twenty-five Jumbo collectors. I purchased one by the way and it is pretty cool.
So I think there will be a follow-up Star Wars Jumbo from Super 7 in the form of Boba Fett as annouced at the last Comic Con. As for this awesome Jet Jaguar, as beloved a character he is by many collectors, the fan base is still relatively small. Certainly compared to the Star Wars fan base. Steve and Mark could produce it just for the love of the toy and some people would buy it, but not enough to recoup their costs.
What do you think?
