Here is Pushead's production Skull Captain from SDCC08. Produced by Secret Base, It's one of my favorite Captains due to the red hair and beautiful green contrasting clothing. It's quite amazing the paint applications that can be achieved in the factory. Although it's a "Production" figure, it was still hand-painted by someone very talented!
One of the best non-vinyl toys from SDCC has to be this remote controlled R2-D2 from Takara Tomy. It's in the same scale as your favorite Kenner Star Wars figures but sports a wireless remote that makes all kinds of R2-D2 sounds. The remote control is a lightsaber of course and one button makes it go forward and the other button makes it turn around in a circle. I can't put it down!!
It's just a bit bigger than this SDCC exclusive Hellboy Qee commemorating Hellboy II. Both toys are in yummy clear....
Here's a short video of R2-D2 in action in the desktop of toys...
I was pretty impressed with the release Cronic had for SDCC 2008 @ the Toy Tokyo booth. I think it was one of the best releases at the show and some of my favorite Cronic pieces. The beautiful clear colors with the subtle metallic paint application is impossible to beat. I believe he had 6 painted figures and the same sculps also came unpainted. Close to $1,000 if you purchased the entire set. I went with the painted figures. Two of my favorites....
My 4 year old daughter designed, composed and took this picture! I might have to have her taking shots for this blog full time...lol..
One of best acqusitions from SDCC is this Mike Sutfin custom Black Widow Rumble Monsters Bop Dragon. I think it's the best one, but i'm a little biased. Thanks Mike!! The cool background came with each dragon. It's a print painted by Mike mounted on wood. very nice!!
A select group of Dragons are part of a secret cult and came with their own cloak!!
Definitely one of the highlights of SDCC was meeting Itokin Park. Probably one of the nicest and down to earth guys you could ever meet anywhere. At first glance, his toys would seem way too cute to sit on my shelves. But it's the simplicity of design and bold use of color that make his toys instant classics. Itokin Park had an event at the Super 7 booth where he was signing his exclusive Himalan. If you were lucky enough to pull 1 of 5 lottery tickets, you could purchase one of five of the custom Mikazukins he brought with him.
Itokin Park with my homie Hiro Hiyashi, aka Lil Japan
Lisa with her signed Itokin Park bag
Himalan is making Josh sleeeeeeepy....
Josh IS a handsome dude...
This was probably the best thing I received from SDCC. It's a print made by Itokin Park of the custom Kikaider Mikazukin that I painted. It's awesome. More pictures to follow. THANK YOU Ito-san!!!
Oh, and check out the latest Himalan colorway released this week at Wonderfestival: Kaleyard!! Kaleyard means Cabbage Garden...!!
