2010 Secret Base Lucky Bag Revealed....!!!

Secret Base 2010 Lucky Bag 30,000 Yen

Thanks to Skullbrainer Aaron who is actually in Japan for New Years, we have our first 2010 Lucky Bag Reveal. In this case, it's from the legendary Secret Base. This was the 30,000 yen version. There is also a smaller 20,000 yen package. I would say 30,000 yen is easily $325 USD.

So what do we have here?

- unpainted 1:1 skull
- unpainted blue GID Usugrow Rebel Ink
- unpainted skeletal Ron English Supersize
- unpainted black Astro Brain
- black and silver Convex Titan figure
- red Balzac fight figure
- GID Balzac fight figure
- Chris Trevino Dr. Mortality Folder
- XL Secret Base T-shirt (not pictured)
- M Secret Base T-shirt (not pictured)
- stickers and keychain
- 20% off SB toys card
- 30% off SB Apparel card

Is it worth 30,000 yen? That depends on your tastes. Just looking at the pure retail value of the toys, yes...there is more than 30,000 yen here. I would estimate probably around $500 worth of toys and clothing. The question is, do you like all of these toys? and do you like all the unpaints? I personally think even a jaded Secret Base collector would be pretty happy with this Lucky Bag on the quantity alone. It probably should be noted that the 20% off toys and 30% off Apparel cards are a nice addition. I would save 30% off the Usugrow Bee jacket i've been eyeing which is 26,040 yen. That saves me 7,812 yen right there. One thing is for certain, this particular Lucky bag is better than the majority of the SB Lucky Bags last year.

Motorbot Rocks the Soopa Show!!!

sooparod2 400x516

Honestly, I have no fucking clue what a Soopa is. When I saw this rad custom by Kevin Olson aka Motorbot, I had no idea it incorporated this Soopa toy. Apparently a "Soopa" is a toy that looks like a mini coin-op video game console. Whatever.....but I'm digging what Motorbot did with it! Turned it on it's side and stuck a Balzac Vampire in it for a driver!!

Shocker Worldwide x Secret Base x Balzac Skullman Custom Paint Contest!!!

head 400x187

Recently, Shocker World Wide held a custom paint contest based on the Secret Base Skullman. Supposedly, the first place will get his custom immortalized into a production run!! Wow!! There were a ton of entries and i'm a really lazy bastard so i'm only posting the top ten prize winners. Congrats to all the Skullbrain boardmembers who entered but especially to Puppet Brain and Gatchabert for 2nd and 3rd place respectively!! You can check all of them out by CLICKING HERE.

OVERALL CHAMPION: Kotetsu "Zombie Skullman"

080121-01-1 400x534

"An Amazing paint job! Naturally, it's a Zombie!! We all think the idea itself is stunning. Hiddy even, coincidentally, arrived at the same conclusion as us when it came to this entry. It was not difficult to choose this great design by 'Kotetsu' as the unanimous winner. The overall concept stays true to the image of Balzac and the application of the paint itself was superb!"
- BALZAC

"This is a special viewpoint only seen by Balzac fans. I think this is an absolutely great job. The Zombie Skeleton idea speaks volumes about Balzac and works perfectly together. I think much thought was put into this work."
- HIDDY

SECOND RUNNER UP: Puppet Brain "Black Blood"

stephensblack01 400x534

"We think the skilled application of the gradient and the attention to detail cannot be overlooked in this entry. This masterpiece was expressed perfectly through the simplicity of the black, white, and red colors - all key colors for Balzac."
-BALZAC

HIROSUKE PRIZE: Gatchabert "Hot Head"

080118-01-1 400x534

"The orange head really grabbed my attention and the contrast with the blue body is great. The skill shown in the gradient paint application is remarkable. I really love the shades used on this one.
-HIROSUKE

ATSUSHI PRIZE: Zodiackaz "Skull Gunsou"

080119-01-1 400x563

"A very nice army camouflage pattern. The coloring of the figure really looks like the 'Lifeguard' drink package we have here in Japan!"
-ATSUSHI

AKIO PRIZE: Fukozume88 "DOCKEY -YUMENO KUNIE"

080130-02-1 400x534

"I am really into the Mickey Mouse colors on this one! I liked the feeling that comes through on it, and of all the ones that utilized the Mickey Mouse colors, I think this one really stands out from the group."
-AKIO

TAKAYUKI PRIZE: Atom・A・AmaresurĂ¢ "KAKKOMAN GAIA NO SASAYAKI Ver."

080128-02-2 400x567

"Never would I have thought that a Skullman could take on this shape! A tip of the hat to great fashion sense... and very sexy!! The belt is the best!!!"
-TAKAYUKI

HIDDY PRIZE: Paryan "Skull Size B"

SBSH0348 400x534

"The inclusion of the brain is the coolest! The skull face matches perfectly with it. There is a huge impact on those of us who know this character."
-HIDDY

OVER THE TOP PRIZE: Balzac Hunter "Punk Rock Skullman"

SANY0021 400x532

"Maybe this prize should have been called "best use of extra parts"! It seems like something out of 'Hokuto no Ken' ("Fist of the North Star"). It almost seems that he is going to explode at any minute! He looks really tough, but we think he's actually a big wimp. We would have liked to have seen some of the parts in some really bright an gaudy colors!"
-BALZAC

IMPOSSIBLE TO REPRODUCE PRIZE: Skelly Bones "Yami Angel Skullman"

080130-16-1 400x532

"There would be no way to ever reproduce this one. It is stunning work. An original masterpiece made as one of a kind."
-BALZAC

BOOBY PRIZE: Tarou "Mix Skullman"

001

"This one is really deplorable... an extremely horrible Mickey! It's painfully sad. Just looking at it we feel sad inside... but, on the other hand we just adore it!
-BALZAC

Here are a few customs I did a while ago for the Super 7 custom show but couldn't bring myself to sell them. Nothing terribly creative or unique, but all the right colors, eh? hahaha. You feeling the Yakuza tats?

Custom Balzac Vampires by Motorbot!!!

IMG_0138

Another set of toys i've had for a while, but haven't had the chance to shoot yet. A comissioned pair by master of the metal effect, Kevin Olson aka Motorbot!! I asked him to re-produce the stainless steel Vampire he did for someone else, but I wanted a copper, bronze version to go along with it. As you can see, he does not disappoint. He's available for all kinds of commissions, so check out his site, send him an email and then your toys for the motorbot treatment!!
