PUSHEAD x SECRET BASE SKULL HEVI

PUSHEAD SKULL HEVI

It had been several years since PUSHEAD came out with a new toy. When he busted this guy out a couple of years ago completely taking San Diego Comic Con by surprise, I was floored and beyond excited. Both the Astro Zombies Skullwing and Kaws vs Pushead Companion were two of the original toys that got me into this hobby. The details on this new sculpt are unreal and really show off the attention to detail represented in PUSHEAD's art work. This particular version is complete with the new Hevi arms in a marbled translucent orange with turquoise vinyl. Definitely one of my all time favorite toys.

Mitomo Horihiro’s (formally Hiroshi Hirakawa) contemporary representations of the classic world of ukiyo-e speak of the ghosts of an era that, though long past, still resonate deeply today; influencing and inspiring current culture.

As a tattooer, Horihiro is immersed in a space that was and is at the heart of ukiyo-e. In fact it is difficult to mention one without the other. The relation between woodblock carvers, tattooers, painters, kabuki actors, geisha, etc. all intertwined to form the pictures of the floating world.

It could be said then that Horihiro is reflecting the world in which he is immersed, albeit with a lens that is extremely sensitive. He plays with myth in multiple dimensions; displaying a rare ability to transcend centuries within his imagery.

DESECRATION...!!! Custom Bounty x Hunter x Secret Base Skull Kun DX...!!!

BxH x SB Skull Kun DX..!!

It's been ages since i've painted anything. I seriously cannot remember the last time.  I have been going through and cleaning up the shelves and recently came across this old Bounty Hunter x Secret Base Skull Kun DX. It's the smoky grey version that came out a few years ago. Probably one of my favorite toys. I think there is only five colorways: GID green, clear blue, clear orange, clear and smoky grey.  So i'm looking at this thing and a scene from Toy Punks vol. 1 comes to mind when they are interviewing Hiddy from Secret Base and in the background, there is a Skull Kun DX in clear purple...!!  I believe it was a test shot or something. Never released.  It's a homage to the Dokuro King. Not sure why this colorway was never produced. It's the most obvious choice.

So I thought why not dust off the airbrush and paint it  up?  After some masking, I went out to the garage and tried to clean up my airbrush. This thing had cob webs on it and it seemed like there was no way I could get this stuff to work. Not to mention that I didn't have any V-Color thinner to safe my life. But it came out ok. some dry brushing on the helmet and i'm happy with it.  Long live Dokuro King Skull Kun DX...!!
