skinner_front1 400x559

Artist Skinner gets his first solo show at 111 Minna Gallery beginning June 4th. It's awesome to witness an artist evolve from sick to insane all in a short while. I'm looking forward to this show. Skinner rocks...!

Art Storm ES Series Preview!!

goshogun1 400x304

Here is a preview of Art Storm's new "ES SERIES" which apparently stands for "Excellent Short Style" But wouldn't that be "ESS SERIES"?? ok, maybe not. Essentially they are Super Deformed. They look hyper detailed with lots of accessories. They are actually not that small at around 7 inches.

This first Super Robot is "GoShogun" He looks familiar, but truth be told, I don't know a lot about him. I like all the weapons and I really dig the extra mini mini figure which looks to be semi transformable? Does it break down into the teeny tiny vehicles? Very cool.... I want this guy, but could pass on the Jeeg...They will be out in September and will retail for around 7,800 Yen.

I dig Jeeg alot, but i've always been not so crazy about this colorway. You know...too much green and yellow. Not enough blue! I love all the weapons and accessories including the horse and all. Nice gimmick to have Jeeg transform into Centaur mode as well. But i'm not sure what it is that just rubs me the wrong way on this one...

SIC Kiwami Tamashii Hobby Japan Mail-In Exclusives!

3565102922_a42d3c8058 400x415

In case you haven't been keeping up, Bandai has a new SIC Series called Kiwami Tamashii. These guys are a bit over 6 inches tall and designed to be the "tweener" between the smaller Takumi Damashii non articulated trading figures and the original larger SIC Action Figure siblings. Translation: They are meant to be Revoltech Killers. I desparately want the clear Hibiki, but i'm not sure i have the patience to go through the gyrations to get one. I'll probably have to pay a bit more on YJA.

In order to promote the new line, they have this cool Hobby Japan Mail-Order exclusive:

First mentioned last month in Hobby Japan, this campaign features Kiwami Tamashii Hibiki and Ryuki Clear Color Edition., 1,000 figures each up for grab.

Participants are required to obtain three bar code stickers from the merchandise involved, paste them onto an official postcard with all necessary information filled in, and send it to Bandai.

The corresponding merchandises are:
* Kamen Rider Hibiki - Already released,
* Kamen Rider Ryuki - Late July release,
* Kamen Rider Knight - Late September release,
* Kamen Rider Zanki (斬鬼) - Late September release,
* Kamen Rider Todoroki (轟鬼) - Late September release

I found this funny review of the first Kiwami Tamashii Hibiki figure from Vangelus. A bit long winded, but worth checking out.

Rotobox Suparobo Mazinger Z!!

mz2 400x597

Here is the latest installment of the superb Rotobox Vinyl Anatomica Suparobo Series. I think Spencer really went overboard with this classic Mazinger. It looks like it should be a real Qee. I would definitely buy a production Qee that looked like this. The finish looks like stainles steel. Just brilliant.

This also did Baron Ashura which is beautiful as well, but i've never really liked this character that much.

Le Merde Customs !!

Le Merde Customs

This is my haul from the We Are Brothers II Show at Super 7 earlier this month. I was pretty stoked to have scored three such Rad customs from the coolest dude on the planet.

How about this crazy purple and pin Vanfar? The way Mike has been going at these guys, it's like he's painting with neon lights. I sometimes take the axe out of his hand and do a little air guitar. Doesn't he look crazy enough to bite the balls off a bat?

Oooh, this piece I really wanted. It's a mini Matango painted green with some purple, but the kicker is the neon pink resin Mike poured over the top. Just like strawberry syrup over a waffle! Lookie as the resin gets in all the mushroomy crevices! Like butter in Broccoli..!

Last but definitely not least is the Seeker. It's actually a character by Arbito that Mike poured in these neon colors and hand painted. A collaboration between Arbito x Le Merde. I wasn't familar with the Seeker before the show but I was taken by the colors and translucency of the resin. Mike's crazy face painting was the icing on the cake.

Kiyoka Ikeda HP Mummy Boy

Kiyoka Ikeda Handpaint Mummy Boy

These pics didn't come out exactly the way I wanted, but such is life. This is the handpainted Mummy Boy that I pulled from the Super7 Lucky Bag last weekend as part of their 8th Anniversary. Pretty lucky as there are only 15 of these total. Kiyoka Ikeda painted his trademark camo pattern on the mummy boy for that cool, urban look.

New Psychedelic Vinyl Junkies Skull Viking

skull-31243070933093 400x400

I've always thought that Vinyl Junkies Skull Viking is an under rated toy. It's not terribly popular for some reason even amongst the hardcore Japanese vinyl collectors, but I do know a couple of fanatic Skull Viking collectors. Check out this exclusive version designed by BLObPUS in this insane psychedelic purple colorway on GID vinyl. Nuts! Only one left at Tokyocube. Grab it while you can!

Yasushi Torisawa Toho Monster Illustrations

Toho Monster Illustrations

These are amazing Toho Monster Illustrations by Artist, Character Designer and Kaiju Evolutionist Yasushi Torisawa for the Summer 2008 Edition of Uchusen Magazine. Not only are these beautiful, but i'm fascinated with how the monters are represented in the their native or not-so native environments. I had no idea that Biolante above was so much bigger than Godzilla. How is that possible?? Shit, he looks like he's gonna snack on our old favorite dino.

I guess Hedorah really does stink
