This Saturday at noon EST, the Toypunk vinyl figure, which was designed by Mike Giant, will release here at Reckless Toys. Made in Japan, this is the first and only vinyl toy that's based on a Giant illustration. With the artist's custom lettering printed on the baseball bat and the back, the figure stands at over 8 inches tall, features a removable baseball bat, and is poseable at the wrists, feet and head. Produced at the venerable Obitsu toy factory, the figure will sell for $99, plus $5 U.S. domestic shipping. (The above video is from the forthcoming Toypunks Vol. 2 DVD, with additional footage and photography provided by Reckless' Lance Martin and Toybot Studios' Kirkland Jue.)

Joe and I hung out with Mike Giant and had a great time discussing the proper way to roll your joints, skating, biking, traveling, Buddhism, cool artists, and even a bit about toys. Mike is a super chill dude with amazing talent. We were honored to get a glimpse into his life. And some of the video we shot that day will make it into Toypunks Vol. 2...!

Leecifer Customs for PK & Lcfr Custom Show at Super 7 this Sat..!

Leecifer Customs for PK&Lcfr Show

Holy Shit. Lee has been painting up a huge storm for his upcoming show with Paul Kaiju at Super 7 this Saturday. I especially like that he added the fire theme to all his toys in honor of his first vinyl toy, Honoo which is the latest character in the Monster Family line up. I like the slightly different palette Lee is using. Bolder colors? Fluorescents? nice...

Miromachina - Mixed Media by Scott Bain

Micromachina by Scott Bain
Micromachina by Scott Bain

One of the coolest art pieces i've seen in a while. Mechanized giant beetles complete with tiny model train figures. Awesome. I'm tempted to try and make one myself but afraid of cutting open one of these giant beetles.

MICROMACHINA examines what makes the insect world tick, and considers our attempts to control nature and the consequences. Humanity’s blatant disregard for nature, where profit comes before life, will ultimately be our undoing. Pesticides, herbicides, genetic modification and massive urban expansion push the fine balance of life toward disaster. There has to be a point, when mother nature will say ‘too far’, and rid the earth of its biggest pest... us.

Once the stuff of science fiction, today flying and crawling insects are used by the military, fitted with audio and video devices. This exhibition experiments using real taxidermy beetles as mechanised shells, to show how we mistreat our fellow inhabitants, forcing them to do our will.

When the planet’s soul is gone, all that’s left is cogs and pipes. You won’t see insects like these on the Discovery Channel.

Mutant Vinyl Hardcore Kickstarter Exclusive Ollies..!

Mutant Vinyl Hardcore One-Off Ollies - Kickstarter Exclusives

LASH from Mutant Vinyl Hardcore has just sent out the first batch of One-Off Ollies from his Kickstarter campaign. Funding from this campaign helped get the Ollie produced. Rich did a great job and his fan base grows all the time. Ollie and his Sludge demon are popular in Japan. i'm wondering though if toys of this size are a major consideration for collectors in Japan. I have to think so. Can you guess which one is mine?

More Paul Kaiju Previews for Super 7 Custom Toy Show this Sat...!!!

Paul Kaiju for S7 Custom show

Man, it's getting really hard watching all these amazing custom toys being previewed by fan-favorite Paul Kaiju. There are several toys I want to buy. Maybe it's a good thing I won't be attending? lol... no. It sucks. Clear Biters above? yes, please.

Paul's new resin figures, Seagools. Birds have never been my thing unless they were Gatchaman.

MOre than likely you missed out on these. They were only up for a few minutes I think. If you did score, you rule. If you scored the purple one, I hate you. Cometdebris busts out classic Gargamel Dokuroman in his signature pastel colorways. Microman homages and all. very nice

Real x Nibbler Size Comparison..!!

Nice size comparison from Datadub. Interesting that the upcoming Real x Nibbler is quite a bit taller than the other RxH collaborations shown. Need room for that signature Nibbler Skull chest.

Get Your 3A Mongrol on Sunday at 5pm PST...!!!

mongrolnew 400x590

Almost here..! Well the purchasing the toy part is almost here. The waiting for said toy for a while will begin soon enough..! The massive and intimidating MONGROL from the ABC Warriors goes on pre-sale on Monday at 5pm PST. Almost 12" square. There is also reportedly an all black "stealth" version which will be a Bambaland Store exclusive. I'm thinking Dirty Deeds style as opposed to Nightwatch. Save your pennies cause these guys will set you back $250 each. MONGROL SMOOSH...!!

For me, this is great. My only exposure to 2000AD was the dreaded Judge Dredd movie with Stallone. The movie pretty much ruined the whole franchise for me. I never even heard of the ABC Warriors until all this 3A madness went down. I think it's a European thing. Now i'm interested in reading the comics and learning more about the other Six members of the ABC Warriors..!

CollectionDX Visits the Bandai Museum

The Bandai Museum has moved, but this video was shot while it was still in Matsudo. This part covers the Character Toy part of the Museum

Hanging out with vintage Robot geeks has given me a renewed appreciation of this genre of Japanese toys. These are vids Josh Bernard and crew from CollectionDX took of the old Bandai Museum in 2006/2007. Awesome

Gundam section of the Bandai Museum. It has since moved.

ToySnob DX Lost Weekend

ToySnob DX Lost Weekend

I had the honor of hanging out with some of the guys from the venerable ToyBoxDX and OmnipotentCollectionDX including Alen Yen, Josh Bernard, Erik Sjoen, Necrodave, Sanjeev, Tom Franck, Jim Maitland, Wayne Ho. Other heavy hitters such as Frank Supiot and Brian Flynn also attended. These dudes are hardcore. I felt like a toy collection newb around these guys as they discussed all the vintage Japanese goodness that I am only now beginning to appreciate. It was a really positive vibe being around like-minded individuals passionate about collecting cool toys. It was also kinda refreshing to be the least obsessive toy person in the room. Believe it. I wish I could post pics of the host's collection. But then your eyes would burn out of your skull and we can't have that.

Brownnoize Productions: Yojimbo Gin Gin...!

Yojimbo Gin Gin
Yojimbo Gin Gin

Nothing is more inspirational than to hang out with guys that are passionate about their hobbies and who make shit happen. Case in point is long time ToyBoxDX contributor and Skullbrain Boardie Sanjeev of Brownnoize Productions. He went out and made a robot and it's fucking beautiful. Based on an enemy of Grendizer named Gin Gin. It's the only Grendizer bad guy that hasn't been made into some kind of toy. I think it's around 4-5 inches tall and cast in pewter. Best of all, it features Rare Earth magnets for that awesome Magnemo vibe..! Ten have this antique finish and the first wave of painted versions should be out soon. I can hardly wait.

Here is the Grendizer Episode featuring Gin Gin
