Mike Sutfin Mad Battle Man Nightfall

Mad Battle Man Nightfall Edition drops at Noon, Monday, August 15th at Reckless Toys. Over 9" tall of Mad Bad Ass, you need to get this. Pictures do not do this figure justice (even mine!). It appears to be a simple white rub on black vinyl, but it's much complicated than that. Grey and silver sprays compliment the figure to give it a really dynamic appearance. $99 plus shipping.

Mike Sutfin x Reckless Toys Mad Battle Man Nightfall Edition Drops Aug. 15th..!!

Mike Sutfin Mad Battle Man Nightfall

The Nightfall version of the Mad Battle Man vinyl figure will release to vinyl collectors across the globe this Saturday here at recklesstoys.com. From the richly complex imagination of artist Mike Sutfin, the figure stands at over 9 inches tall and is one of the most meticulously detailed figures of the genre. This dramatic, black-and-white colorway features white paint and silver spray on gloss-black vinyl. To achieve this photonegative effect, Sutfin handpainted a master copy, which was sent to the factory along with a detailed file illustrating the paint process. There, it was carefully recreated, spray for spray, brushstroke for brushstroke. The amount of handwork that was required for production of the piece, as it was for the original Dusk colorway, is remarkable. The Mad Battle Man Nightfall edition will sell for $99, plus shipping.

Joe and I hung out with Mike Giant and had a great time discussing the proper way to roll your joints, skating, biking, traveling, Buddhism, cool artists, and even a bit about toys. Mike is a super chill dude with amazing talent. We were honored to get a glimpse into his life. And some of the video we shot that day will make it into Toypunks Vol. 2...!

Mike Sutfin Mad Battle Man "Dusk" Has Arrived

July1st back shot 400x599

DUSK has arrived. Here it is, the first production colorway sample as approved by MR. SUTFIN himself. Pinch me, first a white prototype and now this fire-toned beauty, here on these premises, glaring back at the tripod. It's either a orange hued dream or a nightmarish inferno. Amazing, simply AMAZING Hey....WAIT....the MAD BATTLE MAN is stomping away...where is he heading...to SDCC already? No! No...it's those exploding colors in the sky that have caught his brainless attention. What, he's dragging my camera too. Oh no, this is too embarrassing...SUTFIN is going to plunge that mace in my forehead now, for sure.

Mike Sutfin x Reckless Toys Mad Battle Man Prototype...!!

MBM photoshop

With the fury that is SDCC upon us soon, thoughts travel back to last year's epic SDCC unveiling of Mike Sutfin's MAD BATTLE MAN figure, which at the time was still in progress and cast in polycarbonate. Then, it was only a short time ago at WonderCon, that I was sworn to secrecy. That is, since I was one of the lucky ones (there were 5 people total!) to get a hands-on glance and drool over the first WHITE prototype! We're talking a real PROTOTYPE here....the first vinyl pull from the newly minted MAD BATTLE MAN mold. Ah, the elixir that vinyl & steel aroma holds for the sinuses of this vinyl junkie.

Mike Sutfin Mad Battle Man

To start, the detail is incredible, standing 9" tall with long gangly arms and oh, those teeth, sharp and protruding from that mace crushed skull! Although the kneeling position is unconventional, I think it's different and will look awesome when you have 6 or 7 of these Mad Battle Men in different colorways lined up next to each other on your shelf...! One of my favorite new additions since last year would have to be the fiery torch accessory in the left hand. If you look closely, you can see a demonic face in the face... "Firestarrrrstaaaa!!!"

Mike Sutfin Mad Battle Man

Mike was kind enough to entrust me with taking a few snaps of this pearly white vinyl beast. Hopefully soon, in these hands, and in front of my camera lens, will be the Sutfin created SDCC 2010 exclusive 'Dusk' colorway, which is so limited, heads will be spinning...and not from some spikey, battle axed, blood drenched neck wound. The anticipation is at a feverous level, even with the white one in my grasp, just can't wait to see this vinyl battle beast in color...driving me MAD! Then again mike, hint hint.....when is the PURPLE/BLUE version coming out?!!

Mike Sutfin Mad Battle Man

Mad Battle Man is produced by the awesome dudes at Reckless Toys with help from the other awesome dudes at Big Shot Toyworks who did the "sculpting" from Mike's initial drawing completely on a 3D modeling program.

Reckless Toys x Mike Giant = TOYPUNKS Mascot Test Pull..!!

24785_384805682550_369449537550_4288958_6289743_n 400x400

Unpainted Bone White Test Pull for the upcoming Toy Punks Mike Giant designed mascot. I'm stupid and didn't get the Ogon Bat reference until recently. lol...

I don't give a shit about the generic middle finger or the Converse Hi-tops. I like the stylized look regardless if it's made in Japan or China.

Reckless Toys x Mike Giant = TOYPUNKS Mascot

Reckless Toys x Mike Giant

from Reckless Toys

When the Reckless team last went to Tokyo, we took with us the raw sculpture of the Toypunks mascot figure (shown in gray). We visited with our good friend Hiddy, owner of Secret Base toys in Harajuku, to share the progress and to set up production in Japan. Now, just a few months later, after a few tweaks that were suggested by Hiddy and the factory, this porcelain-white, unpainted vinyl sample has arrived in the United States (shown at top left!). We are extremely happy with the quality of the sample, which is being produced at Obitsu factory. Obitsu is hands-down the best vinyl maker on the planet, with over a half-century of experience in the industry and an unmatched legacy of pristine handcraft. A very special thank-you goes out to Hiddy!

Not only are the materials and craftsmanship gorgeous on the figure, it is the first toy to be based on a Mike Giant illustration and the flagship release of Reckless Toys. It will be available this fall at New York Comic Con, at select retailers and at RecklessToys.com. Keep your eyes out for the reveal of colorways and collaborations with our closest friends from across the globe.
