I meant to post this show a long time ago, but just not enough time in the day. I first caught glimpse of artist OKN aka Satoshi Okano at his Rika Battles with the Funky Robot show at FEWMANY a few weeks ago. He deftly uses his manga-style street grafitti to customize Japanese vinyl toys which results in an interesting twist on an already interesting niche medium! OKN used to work at Sega on the Sonic team along side another familiar artist known as Touma. OKN is now full-time freelance graphics designer and artist with this show being just his second exhibition. I contacted OKN and asked him a bit about the show concept:
The title is "Rika Battles With The Funky Robot". Rika is hard worker's business woman. To relieve her stress, she has the dream. She is an expert of Martial arts in the dream. And, Big Robot helps her.
The concept of the custom toy is Rika's collection. For instance,It's KAIJYU,MARIO,FunnyROBOT and more. This is a private property of working female office worker "Rika". Rika is maniac business woman.
The artwork and toys look great! We look forward to more custom toys as well as your own toy figures hopefully soon! Thanks to both OKN and Kaiju Taro for the pictures!
