Stormtrooper Coffee Table

Stormtrooper Coffee Table

The stormtrooper coffee table was the first attempt, and we are pleased with how the mixture of found objects complete with all of their dye stains and use marks sets up the nostalgia play of documenting the history and evolution of the trooper over the years. The table was made from old printing press trays broken down and reconstructed to properly fit the troopers, droids and weapons we wanted to create the proper balance and symmetry. The glass was custom cut and covered in a UV filter help keep the guys white. The upper section was then mounted on old steel pallets and bound together with steel wire. We deliberately avoided polishing off most of the rust, to get the right tone going for the table to be placed against similarly old wood and metal. It's great to be able to pull stuff out of the boxes in the closet and get it out where we can appreciate it as a part of our personal landscape without dominating a room. I've been taking figures in and out of the table all week, messing with the color balance. It's great.

The next project will be taking tons of kaiju minis and dropping them into a steel frame table and then covering them with polyster or resin. I've been looking into the chemicals used in bouncy balls to try and figure out if that can be made into a table top too. Sometimes ignorance can be a great way forward to originality. The bottom line is that our beloved objects deserve better, and we want to lead the charge on that.
