J-Pop Summit @ Japantown September 18th..!!

From local SF Toy Maven Jeremy Brautman

They say it takes a village to raise a child. I say it takes a Vinyl Village to raise that child’s parents’ eyebrows! Jumping Brains, Gloomy Bears, Radioactive Sheep and Glow-in-the-Dark Candy are just a few of the treats in store for you at the 2010 J-POP Summit Festival’s Vinyl Village on Saturday, September 18th in San Francisco’s Japantown. NEW PEOPLE asked me to invite Bay Area vinyl visionaries to take part in the Summit for the first time. As a result, get ready for an exciting day packed with music, art, special guests, live performances, a film screening and TOYS.

In the Vinyl Village you’ll find weird, wacky and whimsical toys from Blamo, Dragatomi, Kuso Vinyl, Neon Monster and Skullyboom. There will be plenty of surprises in store. If you think you already know these companies, prepare to see them in a whole new light.

The all-day event begins at 11AM and spreads out across multiple stages in Japantown infusing the air with entertainment until 6PM. Come see Gothic Lolitas, the latest kawaii from Harajuku and graffiti by Estria. Hear rap, rock and remixes. Shop the Vinyl Village, Artists Alley and Anime Lane. Compete in the Pocky Chow Down. Enter the Yelp! raffle. Play SEGA’s new games. Meet Mori Chack. Sample sweets and sushi in the gourmet food court. And so much more.

By incorporating fresh content from Japan, and encouraging the involvement of local businesses and artists, the J-POP Summit Festival is a platform for the wonderful wave of hybrid culture in our new world community. Check out the festival schedule here. Big thanks to all the toy folks who will be joining us. I hope to see YOU there.
