Rendez-Vous x Three

C'était un Rendez-Vous from Thom Graves on Vimeo

If you're any kind of car buff, you have probably already seen this 1976 short filmed by frenchman Claude Lelouch showing a high speed drive through Paris in a Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9. It's classic and a bit nerve racking.

33 years later, fanatic car collector Jay Leno tries to replicate Rendez-Vous in the Hollywood Hills using a 2009 Mercedes Benz AMG SLS in "The Fast and The Famous" short. It's well done, and Jay's naration is appreciated to an extent, but it doesn't come close the hair raising experience of the original above. Although i'm sure Jay's driving pretty fast, it doesn't seem nearly as reckless as the original.

Here is the "Making of" which is kinda cool. Fuck, I wish I had Jay Leno money and could buy every fucking car on the planet.

Finally, I thought this was sort of funny. It's a spoof on Jay Leno's video called "The Slow and Not Widely Known" which was shot in Chino Hills with a 1985 Mercury Capri. The concept is funnier than the execution unfortunately. If it's meant to be a spoof, he might have done a very mundane drive including stop lights and maybe run over a pedestrian or got into an accident.
