Vinyl Toy Network Show 2007
Just back from LA where I attended the Vinyl Toy Network Show. I have to give kudos to the guys from 3D Retro and all the other sponsors for putting on quite the show. It's my 2nd year and it looks like it's getting bigger and bigger. An impressive giant bag of free schwag for the first 100 people does not hurt attendance either. I'm super lame for not taking pictures of the schwag, but my niece and nephew were in it like 2 piranha and by the time I turned around, there was not much left but a little "Obey" sticker. The pic above is courtesy of the VTN website. I'm guessing the bag was twice as big last year with twice as many mini figures, plus 4-5 magazines including Super 7, Juxtapose, Giant Robot, Drunken Master, Peel and a fist full of enough stickers to do that bus stop right. Free toys and schwag is a very good thing.
I prolly would have gone just for the free stuff, but hometown favorite Super7 made it's inaugural appearance at the show with a new toy release of it's Oblivion Frankenghost. Perhaps a sign of the times that Super 7 will go more mainstream and appeal to a wider audience? That's a good thing IMO. The Oblivion Frankenghost was worth the wait in line by itself. The best in the series, it's clear with an eighties fluourescent pink, yellow, purple and light blue paint application. It's quite beautiful.
Free toys and schwag has a way of luring toy folks out early on a Sunday!

Japanese toys are cool. With the exception of Biskup's table and a few Artist's tables, many of these vendors carry the very same line-up of western toys. More toy variety is welcome.
