Mari Inukai "sekaiseifukudan" New Figure Line

I kind of like these new resin figures by artist Mari Inukai. Yes, they look sort of generic and cutesy, but the fact that they are made of clear resin is a big plus. Whoa, I just realized that these are $100 each. hmmmm, a bit spendy. Beautiful, but expensive. You can pre-order yours at the GR Online Store right now.

Pop Japanese Inspired Resin Painted Vases by Sebastiaan Straatsma

Caught this post by the legendary Jeremyriad on these insane vases that are painted with resin by Dutch designer Sebastiaan Straatsma

via: designboom

each of straatsma's vases is made from mixed and hand colored resin which is drawn and splattered onto open structures - self-made moulds and shapes. once the resin is dry, the moulds are removed revealing vibrant objects which stand on their own. here, the resin works both as decoration and construction within one form. a result of an expressive momentum where color, texture and image come together. some of the vases are based
on pre-paired working collages while others are the result of a more improvisational expression, making each piece unique.

My question is how does he get the mold out? What about the figures on top of each vase? Can't pull those out from underneath the painted resin??!! Amazing...

High Dream Grendizer Die-Cast Toys

I spotted these die-cast Grendizer toys on battlegrip.com. I thought to myself: cool, more Grendizer toys and in die-cast...! I went to his affiliate link over at Entertainment Earth and saw that there was a decent assortment of Grendizer toys by High-Dream. It's a Japanese company but is distributing to the US and European market. Grendizer or Goldrake in Europe is big.

Grendizer is one of my favorite characters and I do own the High Dream mini spazer with ejectable Grendizer, but I was wondering what about these other die-cast toys. Grendizer himself is around 6" tall and goes for $50. ok, an inch shorter than the SOC version. If you want the set with the Spazer, it costs you $150. Hmmmmmm, less toy for the same or probably more than you can get the SOC version with Spazer. If the set was $100, I would probably be all over it. As it is now, $50 too much.

"New Toys for Melancholics" Show by Gabriels @ TAG

I'm intrigued by this upcoming New Toys for Melancholics show at Toy Art Gallery. Italian sculpter GABRIELS has made the distinction that these pieces are not sculptures, but toys. With all of the intricate polished pieces, they seem more like puzzles than toys. Beautiful. Organic pieces of art. I wonder if they will be priced more like toys than sculptures...lol..

Toy Art Gallery is proud to present "New Toys for Melancholics", a solo show by Pop Surrealist sculptor and philosopher GABRIELS. Polished hand-crafted bronze, life-like glass eyes, and scores of tiny internal intricate elements and organs are just the beginning as you delve into GABRIELS embryonic sculptures.

“Let it be clear: these are not sculptures, but toys and more precisely prototypes of Toys for Melancholics. They aspire to the industrial production on a large scale and to the indefinite propagation, in proportion to the planetary diffusion of the anguishastic-desperative Weltanschauung and of the consequent – very legitimate, although not absolutely incontrovertible – propensity to suicideness. In this sense, our Toys for Melancholics scrupulously respect all the standards of global melancholy quality in a petrified primeval landscape, addressing courageously to a public of adults, kiddies and lithopaedia.”
----Gabriels

We invite you to join us for the "New Toys for Melancholics” opening at 7pm on May 6th with Paolo Gabrielli in attendance. Show runs until April 30th.
