I'm a sucker for Ltd. Edition versions. Usually because Ltd Edition versions mean metallic colors and they always look awesome. This metallic version of CM's Corp. Jeeg is another example. Due out late July, this guy is not cheap at around $236. Pre-order yours at AmiAmi
I spotted these die-cast Grendizer toys on battlegrip.com. I thought to myself: cool, more Grendizer toys and in die-cast...! I went to his affiliate link over at Entertainment Earth and saw that there was a decent assortment of Grendizer toys by High-Dream. It's a Japanese company but is distributing to the US and European market. Grendizer or Goldrake in Europe is big.
Grendizer is one of my favorite characters and I do own the High Dream mini spazer with ejectable Grendizer, but I was wondering what about these other die-cast toys. Grendizer himself is around 6" tall and goes for $50. ok, an inch shorter than the SOC version. If you want the set with the Spazer, it costs you $150. Hmmmmmm, less toy for the same or probably more than you can get the SOC version with Spazer. If the set was $100, I would probably be all over it. As it is now, $50 too much.
ES Chapter 6 alloy bullets in 1976, was produced by Tatsunoko anime was "five dams Gowappa Go" from a giant robot "go dumb" to the lineup. Dealt a mechanical designer Kunio Okawara's design is distinctive grab the hearts of love robots! Also large range of motion, the display in various poses with an. Parts of a combination of both shoulders, arms reproduced also Godamuhoganda Hissatsu, also comes with a mini-sized mechanical Gowappa is possible to store the movie set as Godamu.
The latest in Artstorm's ES Series is this kinda SD version of the main robot from the 70's anime Gowapper 5 Godam. Despite this thing being red, I really like it. I'll probably buy it for the gimmick of all the little ships being carried inside with all the little doors. I love this kind of shit. The mech design is by the master designer Kunio Okawara is classic and gives you a bit of insight to his later designs with Gundam, Tekkaman, Votoms, Xabungle, Layzner, GaoGaiGar...man, what classic Japanese robot did he not design??

Here is the only piece I won from the Morphy Auction. Popy Chogokin DX Grendizer and Spacer. Grendizer kicks ass and one of my favorite Robots from childhood. Put him in his Spacer and you pretty much cannot come up with a more perfect toy. I'm pretty stoked as it was one of the pieces I really wanted to win and nobody bid against me! Thanks guys. Since I don't collect "vintage" toys, I don't really have a good grasp of their values, but in this case, I don't really care. I'm not sure if this piece is really worth anything, but the toybox DX guys valued it at like somewhere between $175 and $250 I think. I got it for $150 not including all the fees and shipping. This was a managable price for something I think is cool. It didn't come with a box, but it's in fairly good condition I think. There is wear and tear, but everything seems to be there and in working condition. It's larger than I thought it was going to be, but not nearly as large as the SOC version.
Next to Skullbrain for size reference.
Next to mini Popy Grendizer.
I could have busted out the SOC version, but it would have been a bit busy. Next to the tiny Spacer.
Max Factory is re-releasing their awesome die-cast Mazinkaiser in January. Why is this notable? Because it's awesome and I didn't get on the first time around. When I did check it out, I was thinking it's beautiful, but for $150, it doesn't really do anything. You know like transform or anything like that. Of course, it's not supposed to, but you know what I mean. For $150, you want more than a poseable toy. Now that i'm wiser, i'm ok with a very high quality, all die-cast toy for this amount. God knows there is a lot of shit out there for more $$.
I know you're reading this thinking what would be the perfect Christmas present for me? This is a good start. Will be around $150 when it comes out and I think well worth it given the heft of this mighty die-cast toy.
The giant wings and plethora of swords make this set worth it!
Check out Fewture latest die-cast goodness: Gotchaman vehicles. There will be two sets released: A&B. I think the better of the two would be Set B which includes G3, G4 and God Phoenix. Not only do you get THE definitive Gotchaman Jet in God Phoenix, you also get the very cool looking Tank. Since I dig hot chicks on motorcycles, it makes for a perfect trifecta. Due out in December, better hope you've been a good boy, cause these will cost you almost $250......for each set. Yowza..! Who said were in a recession??? Pre-order now from Hobby Link Japan.
Set A is kinda weak IMO. It contains G1, G2 and Red Impulse. The car sucks and the jets are meh.
Oh, man. Take a look at my Christmas present to myself! Art Storm and Fewture announced not one, but TWO awesome EX-GOKIN die-cast figures for December. Both designed by the late "Professor Robo" Taku Sato, these really are amazing works of art. They will compliment the Black Getter Ryoma and Boss Borot I have coming!!!
So which one will be under my Christmas tree? Great Mazinger above of course!!! Prof. Sato will be missed.....!!! At 26,000 yen (around $240 USD), these guys are not cheap. They are around $40 more than the previous Boss Borot offerings which I think are more complicated to manufacture, but I believe the price reflects the fact that Prof. Sato has passed away.
The second version is Mazinger 1969 which is the more traditional of the two. It's cool and all, but does not have as much zing as Great Mazinger IMO. I'm pretty sure it's that flat top head that doesn't do it for me....
