Rumble Monsters x Dead Presidents Dragon Engine!!

IMG_4590 400x599

I have something to admit. I never really liked Rumble Monsters Dragon Engine toys. Although they were heralded as the most under-appreciated toy of 2007, I just thought they looked lame as a car and lame as a monster car. Well, I might have changed my tune. Tonight was the first time I actually got to play with one. The simple act of twisting it's head to make it go from Car to Monster converted me. A quick flip of the wrist and you have Transformer action going on. Of course the fact that it's clear and painted by Matt Walker influenced me as well. In Matt's first limited production run of toys, he's collaborating with Rumble Monsters on 50 of these little bastards. Check 'em out. Very cool in-hand.

Brand Fury: "Kicking Funk Like a Shaolin Monk"

IMG_0694 400x533

I had a mini Toy Roadshow last weekend. Not only did I hit Super 7, HUF and The Hundreds, I managed to stumble upon Brand Fury which is a couple of doors down from HUF. I'm embarassed to say that although i've seen Brand Fury on the web, i've never actually been to the store in it's five year existence in San Francisco. Partners Benji Wong and Glen Chun have an interesting little spot here worth checking out. One part Munky King, one part Super 7, one part Chinatown DVD store, one part Tower Records Toy Section, Brand Fury has something for everyone and shouldn't be compared to anyone. I met Benji Wong who has to be one of the coolest guys on the planet. He was constanting giving me stickers and buttons while advising me on the latest Hong Kong DVDs to purchase. I ended up buying The Great Yokai Wars and Three Kingdoms. The latter mainly for Maggie Q.

They have a lot of uber-hip T-Shirts with the all the cool asian slogans like "Eat Rice" as if that needs instructing. I was struck that they had several older toys that you just don't see around anymore either. An older SIC Hakaider for example.

Dead Presidents Custom Skullwing!!

IMG_4513 400x599

Here is the absolute latest from Matt Walker of Dead Presidents Designs. This guy is a doozy. I asked Matt to paint over the clear purple Skullwing, but leave areas see-through and pinstripe over that. One of my very favorite pieces. Thanks Matt! The Skullwing designed by Pushead and produced by Secret Base is the ultimate Fight Figure.

The Hundreds San Francisco Retail Store!!

IMG_0677 400x533

I finally got around to checking The Hundreds new retail store in SF on Saturday. Aside from the sign, you wouldn't know it was there cause the windows are all covered. A sliding glass door allows you entrance into a very trendy shopping experience that can be best described as a cave. I have no idea how anyone finds anything they want to buy. It's pretty dark in there. I dig the concept, but i'm really not sure what the big deal is. I realize these kinds of clothes are all the rage on Hypebeast and all that, but I just find the style and colors a bit immature. I'm afraid that i'm showing my age. Perhaps 20 years ago, I would be all over this stuff, but the bomb logo is kinda weak. Anyways, I thought it funny walking out of the store watching these kids (and I mean kids) carrying out bags full of $50 t-shirts with said logo on them. But hey, if you're in SF and a fashionista, drop on by and check them out. Then head around the corner and get some dunks at HUF...

Super 7 Saturday, Sept. 13th Fall Cleaning Sale!!

IMG_0669 400x533

This last Saturday was the Fall Cleaning Sale at Super7. The table was filled with a ton of great toys that had been misplaced or taken from Hold Boxes or just found lying around in the back. There were quite a number of toys that I jumped up and down to get when they first came out. Many I paid much more for. It was a bit odd because as we all stood around the table, we all looked at each other and agreed that there were some good toys, but nobody really needed them. There were a ton of great RxH minis, the full size S7 RxH set which is stuff of legends. The RxH Bruised set, GID Onihead, Forest Secreter and these awesome Dark Side Suits above.
