The opening night of GARAMANIACAL was an absolute blast and a total success! Really, it could not have gone better; all the work looked AMAZING together, running such a wonderful gamut of mediums and styles; there truly is something for everyone in this show. I am so proud of this show, so proud of all of you and so deeply humbled and full of gratitude that you participated! THANK YOU!!! I can say sincerely that you are all superb people, and it was so great to connect and communicate with each of you as we ran up to show time; I truly hope we will have some more opportunities to collaborate in the future.

Beyond being such a kickass assemblage of great talent & great works, and beyond Jim and Nicole @ FOE being such great people to work with, we were helped by the weirdly mild temperature on Friday night, and the fact that the opening fell on one of Northampton's monthly Friday Art Walk events. Downtown was packed, as was GARAMANIACAL! People seemed very into the event and the art, and we kept a good crowd turnover going right 'til the end. You could really see many non-initiates having and enjoying their first look at this very particular realm of art and culture.

We had a great in-house band (assembled and led by Dan Hornworm) which totally fit with the night, providing everything from Chirusonian noise-scapes to menacing, King Crimson-esque grooves.

My first outing as Garamike was, overall, a SMASHING success (pics attached); had a great time in the suit and hopefully provided all those I came into contact with a memorable experience. I wasn't able to get the feet and tail done in time for the show, but did have the head and hands. When I first arrived in town in full gear, Jim took us over to his friend's vintage shop, Roz's Place, where the owner, Tim, had Garamike try on several different evening-wear options. I settled on a brown polyester suit that must've been the height of fashion in Manila in 1976, and went really well with my Gara-colors. Then I stalked around town for a bit, moving as only a mechanical meteorite monster can (sort of a jerky, high-stepping march), bugging people, invading various galleries and businesses, and croaking about the show to anyone who would listen. Finally entered the gallery around 7:00, to a general hush and some dropped-jaw stares...

I have to say that 6 hours... is a bit too long to be in the suit, though. In addition to being buried under rubber for all that time (the thick silicone of the mask covers/clings to my entire head and shoulders, then the weighty headpiece on top of that), the paint on the headpiece (actually thinned and pigmented rubber cement) had not fully cured yet, so I was breathing some significant fumes all night. By about 8:45, I looked at my wife and said, "I think I need to get out of this... RIGHT NOW." One serious sweat-mopping and face-scrubbing later, I felt a little less strange. I then had a bottle of Schlitz; I didn't even know Schlitz was still being made...

Finally, I want to mention that we have already raised a nice chunk of funds ($175 in the four days the show has been up) for the MSPCC, between contest entry fees and sale of entries on opening night; also, several artists have designated a portion of their sale proceeds from their works to the organization, so the number should climb even higher.

I will be posting a full wrap report on Garamania within the next day, with many more pics, so stay tuned!

Again, thanks so much to all of you for being so GARATASTIC, so utterly PYGDERFUL, such amazing and monsterly art-stars!

Alex Wald Garakutagigas

Exciting news reported by Garamania today that Atelier G-1 is going to release a vinyl version of the above Junk Giant GARAKUTAGIGAS painted by Alex Wald for Kaiju Comrades 2 last year...!! Expect it hopefully for the Summer Super Festival. Congratulations Alex...! Looks great. Mecha Junky Garamon...!

Here is the news from Atelier G-1 Blog

WF does this summer, G-1 will be the first out the Orijinarusofubi.
ASTROMONSTER Series Vol. 1 "Garakutagigasu" is.Chicago-based designer design "Alex Wald (Arekkusuuorudo)" I said.I met with him yet, but not directly, after taking Makunagata sponsored exhibition was held last year has come and what had been exhibited Bibitsu illustration, it asked for permission to Makunagata Why do not you try to talk to someone to let Alex solidifies me? Why is that. He will work with many who have deep knowledge of Japanese culture and special effects monster. The relationship between my American friends with customers and team building only the prototype of the nurses received. I also have things in Tsuburaya work, I felt a tribute dedicated to the design motif and have a monster come to follow us as soon as the monster fan. G-It is also a familiar monster. When I saw the fuss is an illustration of his own blood at the venue, thinking "let me come to me if you have not made been solid yet!" Would ask this. I had heard in Futatsu返事 then acknowledge.
However, there have to do and many things were fixed schedule yet, as soon after that started last year.

The original design of soft vinyl, "Monstock" and other friends in the building several times, I have a relationship with us for many years the maker of the original series, the studio did not own like I did for some reason. This year in order to expand its range of activities would like to try new challenges.

Model is already finished, and from the United States Alex is currently nearing completion with the supervision they get the final. 4,29 "Sufesu" prototype on display at the latest summer in time for the WF Masu Hashi of soft vinyl. Alex has been received from several new sketches are determined from the story, I finished work as a teacher rather challenging model.

It comes out OK, then I can introduce Sufesu HP and this blog. We are so excited about what happens to myself, please can everyone please watch over fans warmly real monster.

Paul Kaiju Custom Zinkalon Garamon 2.0

Paul Kaiju Custom Zinkalon Garamon 2.0

So awesome that Paul Kaiju has started sculpting again. While I haven't quite yet acquired the taste for all of his recent mini figure resin sculpts, this Custom Zinkalon Garamon project is awesome. A mecha Garamon...!!?? How awesome is that. Put me down for one please.

Zinclon Garamon 1 by Paul Kaiju

Zinclon Garamon by Paul Kaiju

I'm not exactly sure what this is, but I think it's a sculpture by Paul Kaiju that I spied on his flickr. What a die-cast robot of Garamon would like like? Missle Firing and submarine deploying...!!?? Awesome.

Marusan Pigmon!!!

IMG_4316 400x599

Marusan has been doing these beautiful clear vinyl paint applications with these irridescent foils inside. The combination is amazing. The first is this blue Pigmon which I knew I wanted the first time I saw a picture of it at an earlier toy show in Japan. Next up will be a clear orange Baltan. This is a big step for me as I haven't collected more traditional Kaiju before and this is actually my first Pigmon or Garamon.... I can't tell which. It's a double violation because he's a standard 9" figure which doesn't really fit into my collection. Who knows, maybe this is the early days of my traditional kaiju collection...lol...!!
