Wondercon 2009!!!
Last weekend was Wondercon. I went on Friday and hung out with buddy Autopsy. I have to admit, I was enjoying the conversation and just walking around, that I wasn't focused on getting any pictures or video. I suggested to myself that I will come back later in the day after my meeting back at the office. Sadly when that plan went to hell, I promised I would go back on Sunday. That never happened either. So what you see here are the pictures I did manage to take as well as some very good pictures of Harmond's son David.
One of the highlights is definitely Chris Ryniak's Big Muscamoot. It's his first toy and it's a collaboration between Chris, Rotofugi and Squibbles INK The new series is called The Lake Monsters and the Big Muscamoot in the first creature. If you look up Muscamoot Bay, hopefully Chris' new monster eats up all those crazy boaters! I don't think i've ever seen a lake that looks like a parking lot! Chris is inspired by all the cool Japanese toys we love such as BLObPUS, Charatics, Gargamel, Max Toy Co, RealxHead, Super 7 and even toybot studios! Thanks Chris!! Big Muscamoot is a faithful interpretation of your artwork. I can hardly wait to see what it looks like with some paint on it!
Another artist that made me stop and bust out my camera is Lavonne Sallee of OOAK Barbies which stands for One Of A Kind Barbies. She makes these great Barbie dioramas that are pretty much anti-Barbie and express everything we would like to do to the real life Barbies we face everyday.
Kazu and Autopsy hanging out at Wondercon. Were on the hunt for the original Master of the Universe Comic Series!!
Jesse Hernandez and crew representing the Nut Shack!
I heard the other day that Steampunk is the new Goth. This interesting booth by Steam Alchemy has all the acoutremonts for your Steam Punk costume including those wacky monocles last seen in National Treasure with Nicholas Cage.
Wristful of Hyperdermic Needles anyone?
One of the illustrators I first met last year, John Giang of Orbital Harvest had some really cool new works including this Street Fighter painting he did for the 20th Anniversary Book. John is blowing up and working his dream job at ILM right now. Awesome to see his talent get recognized!
Finally we finish with David's pictures. Only a kid with a pure as snow smile like David's could solicit the sincere reactions you see here. My only question in looking at these pics is if David has seen all the Star Wars movies or Moonraker or the OG Batman TV show. Pretty sure his dad showed him all of these, but it would be kinda funny if David had no idea who all these crazy people are...anyways, thanks David and Harmond for the great pics!!
