BAIT x Mindstyle SDCC 2014

BAIT x Mindstyle SDCC 2014

BAIT x Mindstyle. I missed my chance to take a picture with the larger than life MD Young. Bummer. But we do have a picture of Emi with her own Onamori Doll in her likeness above. Probably the best toy at the booth.

This fucking Raccoon from Legends of the Galaxy was everywhere this year. Seem like each booth had this Raccoon.

These vinyl figures had some hype behind them. Supposedly it's an attempt to take Funko styling and put it into a sofubi toy. The rumor is that Hiddy from Secret Base actually did some consulting for MD and helped him teach workers in China on how to make sufubi using Japanese techniques. I'm a bit skeptical but I find it interesting. Personally not feeling these.

These Daft Punk figures are kinda cool, but I didn't realize how big they were. Like the size of a watermelon. Not cheap either as you can see. Make em 4" tall and sell 10,000 units.

Disney x BOUNTY HUNTER x MINDstyle Skull Kun Mickey

Disney x Bounty Hunter x MINDstyle Skull Kun Mickey

I'm still trying to get my head around this one. Disney x BOUNTY HUNTER x MINDstyle Skull Kun Mickey...hmmmmm... this thing is horrendous yet I can't stop looking at it. I love the concept and the classic colorway is awesome, but i'm having problems with the ears. They just don't look right. First of all they are too small. Out of proportion with the head. Secondly, they should be tilted a bit more off to the side of the head. It's also a huge figure. In the comparison shot below, the regular Skull Kun is like 6.5 inches tall. So this guy is probably 10"-11" tall. It's definitely growing on me. the more I look at it, the more I like it.

I just hear MD pitching this thing: "We take that Bounty Hunter Skull Kun guy and put him in Mickey Mouse clothes... Are you KIDDING ME?? It will be AWESOME....!! Emi..get Hikaru on the phone right now..!!"

Yotoy PRTC Robot - SDCC 2010

Three_PRTC 400x250
Frightening size comparison. The little guy is still 9"-10" tall...!

I got a chance to check out the new Yotoy PRTC robots designed by SF local artist Norio Fujikawa at the MindStyle booth at SDCC. No toys were actually released, but a couple of prototypes were there. First thing to mention is that they toys are big. Bigger than I expected. This is both good and bad. Good because big toys are cool. Bad because big toys take up a lot of precious shelf space and tend to cost a lot. These guys are due out by year end. Man, I hope they don't break the bank. But as long as they can stand up ok, I'll add them to my collection.

this guy is the smallest and he's still probably 9"-10" tall.

Omar was really big. Too big to stand up. Standing up, maybe 22"?!!!

MINDstyle x Disney Stitch Experiment 626 @ SDCC 2009

MINDStyle Stitch 626 Project

Here is the MINDStyle x Disney Stitch Experiment 626 Project display at SDCC 2009. I am honored to be a participating artist alongside friends of immense talent such as Paul Kaiju, LASH and Leecifer. Stitch is probably the largest toy I've ever painted so it was interesting to have so much real estate to work with. I was lucky to get a good location at the show. Unfortunately, Chris Ryniak's custom was stolen and it was sitting right next to mine! I guess theives do have good taste! lol. Thanks to MD and Emi for the opportunity. Thank you to Disney as well as all of the proceeds from the sale of my custom will go to their charity.
