ZERO TOLERANCE 0888: Knife of the Year

246438_10151058372281282_788683742_n

ZERO TOLERANCE is on fire right now. Seems like they can do no wrong. Right on the heels of one of the most successful production folders with the ZT0560 plus the highly anticipated ZT0777, they blew everyone away again at the BLADE Show with this prototype of their upcoming ZT0888. It won overall Knife of the Year. No word on ETA or price, but i'm guessing it will be a bout a year before we get it into our grimey hands. I'm thinking $300-$350 for price. It's quite a large folder.

ZERO TOLERANCE "Stealth" Preview

Zero Tolerance Stealth

Zero Tolerance posted up these pics on their Facebook page. It's a preview of one of the knives making it's debut at Blade this weekend. No official name, but they are calling it "Stealth" for now. I really like the futuristic, clean, sleek lines. It looks like some kind of alien space ship. It looks like a pretty big folder as well. No ETA or price yet. Will probably be another year before we get this one in our grubby hands.

Microtech Matrix is Ripping Off Zero Tolerance 0777?

Minor uproar in the Knife community recently. While most of us are waiting to get our grubby hands on the Zero Tolerance 0777 which was named 2011 "Overall Knife of the Year" by BLADE Magazine, it seems another manufacturer, Microtech is launching a very similar design called the Matrix. What do you think? Rip-Off or Homage?

Personally, I think it's pretty cheesy to blatantly rip off ZT's design right after they won Knife of the Year. There are so many elements that are a like. In the end, there is a $100 difference in price with Microtech being more expensive. In general, the response has been unfavorable towards the practice by Microtech. I'm not sure they give a shit though. At the end of the day, they will sell a bunch of these as well.

ZERO TOLERANCE x Rick Hinderer 0560

ZT 0560/0561

The other knife from Blade 2011 from ZERO TOLERANCE that really made an impression is their collaboration with Rick Hinderer. His knives are highly sought and go upwards of $600 when you can get them. Titanium Frame Lock with flipper action. The ZT 0560/0561 are "poor man's" Hinderer. You can pre-order yours for $259 from GP Knives. Comes in two colors: Black (0560) and Earth (0561)

The Zero Tolerance 0560 is the latest collaboration between ZT and Hinderer Knives based on Rick's world renowned XM-18 flipper. The blade consists of pure Bohler ELMAX powder steel that combines high wear resistance and corrosion resistance with extreme edge retention and toughness. The blade has a stonewashed/tumbled finish with dual thumb studs. The flipper rapidly deploys the blade using the KVT(Kershaw Velocity Technology) ball-bearing system. KVT differs from IKBS in that the ball bearings are pressed into nylon washers so that they install as one washer unit rather than several individual bearings, thus making installation and removal much easier. The front handle scale is 3-D machined black G10 with an equally 3-D machined titanium scale on the back. The 3-D machined titanium frame lock has a lockbar stabilizer for extreme lockup security. To lighten up this beefy folder, ZT skeletonized the liner and machined pockets in the titanium handle and frame lock. Includes ZT's new deep-carry pocket clip with quad mounting system for tip up or down ambidextrous carry. Made in USA.
