A Japanese toy commercial for Star Wars toys was thought to be lost for thirty years, but has now been found! Okay, not really....but this may be even cooler. We at Super7 produced our own retro-video for the STORMTROOPER SUPER SHOGUN figure, shot in the style of Japanese toy commercials from the 1970s. Using the old videos as our storyboards, a few sparklers, and a lot of effort has resulted in this fun video,

Super 7 Stormtrooper Super Shogun Release Party..!

The Super7 Stormtrooper Super Shogun release party was on Saturday including a special escort from members of the Bay Area 501st Legion. The party was packed and because it was a super hot day, a good deal of time was spent outside with the troopers so they wouldn't bake in their own armor. It was a great mix of local Star Wars fans, toy nerds and Super 7 regulars. The Skulletor Ghost Trooper also made it's debut as one of the best looking Ghost Troopers yet released. One of the highlights of the evening was the raffle. Bootleg stormtroopers were handed out with #'s on the bottom: TKxx, etc. The winner was young David (son of Harmond) and I can't think of a bigger fan worthy of winning. keep an eye out for Alex Zavaleta's interview with a Stormtrooper....

Star Wars Super Shogun Release Party June 12th, 6pm...!!!!

Super7 celebrates our first collaboration with Lucasfilm with a special release party for the STAR WARS: STORMTROOPER SUPER SHOGUN!

Available at retail for the first time ever, the SUPER SHOGUN is a Limited Edition of only 1200 pieces, with many of that quantity already presold to consumers and overseas distributors. This is a one-time production with each STORMTROOPER hand numbered on the base of the foot with a unique serial number. Be sure to arrive early, as the first 100 people thorough the door will be given a unique Star Wars themed collectible, which will act as your raffle ticket. A random drawing later in the evening will award a prize package including one of the SUPER SHOGUN figures – a $299 value! Come on out to either buy one, or try your luck at winning one!

Similar to how the toy itself combines the themes of Star Wars and Japanese Super Robots, we will have an extraordinary exhibition of rare vintage toys from both franchises on display. The expansive series of original Kenner Star Wars action figures, including rare items such as figures with early “telescoping” light sabers, will be shown from the personal collection of Super7 honcho Brian Flynn. From 12-backs to Yak Faces, you will have the opportunity to see the complete Kenner collection in its entirety. Master collector and “Chairman” of ToyBoxDX.com, Erik Sjoen, has graciously allowed us to exhibit his incredible collection of vintage Japanese Jumbo Machinders. The two-foot tall giants will take up a large amount of the exhbit space with over 20 different robots featured, from the popular Raideen and Grendize, to the more obscure Capsule Robo G and Giant Gorg. The final part of the exhibit will be dedicated to the “making of” the SUPER SHOGUN itself, as we present various stages of the production never before seen, including design sketches, original sculpts, and various mold tests.

Aside from our Jumbo figure, actual Stormtroopers themselves will be on-hand at the party! Security at the event will be provided by the Golden Gate Garrison of the 501st Legion, to ensure that any rebel scum is dealt with accordingly. We hope to see you at the party!

G4's Epic April Celebrates Star Wars

Tune into G4 next week as its popular Attack of the Show celebrates all things Star Wars with exclusive clips and interviews. Here's a peek at what's coming up:

Monday, April 26th: Jaime King and Daniel Logan are in the studio to discuss The Clone Wars season finale, and they're bringing an exclusive scene with them! As a bonus, G4 will be giving away a Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun Collectible to a lucky viewer.

Frank Supiot of Super 7 gives us the back stage pass at the Stormtrooper Super Shogun factory in Shen Zhen, China about an hour outside Hong Kong.



The Empire grows: the bodies in partial assembly. The polyethylene parts have been created at the blow-molding factory, while the soft vinyl parts (heads & hands) are created at an entirely different facility.




The Blaster is created by injection molding, once again under strict supervision. The pieces on the table are the stock, which folds out from under the barrel.


As part of our QC process, we are checking each blaster individually. And by “we”, I mean ME!

SAN FRANCISCO — Brian Flynn is on a mission from the toy gods to create the ultimate collectible: a giant-size plastic mashup of Star Wars cool and retro Japanese cachet.

His creation, a 2-foot-tall wonder called the Stormtrooper Super Shogun, is based on the Jumbo Machinder toys that were sold in Japan for a decade or so starting in 1973. The vinyl head, the wheeled feet, the spring-loaded fist — all the nostalgic details that make the so-called Jumbos what Flynn, 38, calls “the ultimate collectible with the toy guys” — are lovingly baked into the DNA of the Stormtrooper Super Shogun.

“We’re trying to make it as authentic to the originals as we can,” said Flynn, pictured above in the window of his San Francisco toy store, Super7. “If we’re going to make it, we’re going to go ahead and be real, real nerdy about it.”

Flynn has been sweating the details of Super7’s Stormtrooper Super Shogun for nearly three years. Now he’s just hours from putting his $300 colossal collectible on sale. (Preorders start at noon PST Friday, with an expected release date of May 29.)

The goal was to tap into a particularly sweet spot in geek culture by creating, essentially, a perfect replica of a dream toy that never existed.

Super7 set out to manufacture the Stormtrooper Super Shogun utilizing the same technology used to create ’70s Japanese toy imports that were known as Shogun Warriors in the United States. From the beginning, the idea was to make the Stormtrooper using blow molding rather than more current technology.

It would have been 10 times easier to make the Stormtrooper Super Shogun using injection molding, Flynn said, “but then it wouldn’t be a Jumbo.”
