Destructionis Hostis Vespa
September 14 - October 05, 2013
White Walls Project Space is pleased to present Destructionis Hostis Vespa by Paris-based artist, Ludo, featuring resin sculptures and works on paper. The opening reception will be Saturday, September 14, from 7-11 pm, and the exhibition is free and open to the public for viewing through October 05, 2013.
Reminiscent of scientific illustrations, Ludo creates a new take on nature with 10 28 x 20” paintings depicting the weaponized insect the show is named for, from multiple views. In the grayscale of graphite juxtaposed with a bright, fern green spray paint, the Destructionis Hostis Vespa is shown with the delicate wings and segmented body of a wasp alongside features of a sleek military aircraft. This aberrant hybrid speaks of a nature irrefutably fused with technological invention. There is a menacing edge to Ludo’s creations, though the work itself is full of surprisingly delicate details.
A sculptural rendering of the hostile wasp, in an edition of three, will be displayed in the center of the room, giving 3D form to the artist’s vivid imaginings.
