Big Daddy Roth on JUXTAPOZ

Big Daddy Roth on Juxtapoz

Big Daddy Roth...another hugely influential artist of our time.

As mailboxes are starting to get filled with April 2012 issues of Juxtapoz, we think it may be time to make our announcement of the issue. In honor of his longtime friend, and legendary artist, we have a special piece on the legacy of Big Daddy Roth and his infamous Rat Fink character by Robert Williams. As we embark on our 18th year as a print publication, we wanted to give a historical perspective of one of our earliest inspirations.

As we announced on the site last week, our November 2011 issue was specially curated by a true icon, Pushead. This is the second time we have given Pushead the curatorial duties, and he selected Aaron Horkey to create an exclusive cover image for the November issue. Horkey is also in conversation with Pushead inside the magazine.

Here is a our general mission statement for November 2011. BUY IT HERE.

Every few years, we like to get together with the legendary Pushead and let him take over an issue of Juxtapoz. This year, our November 2011 issue is curated by Pushead, featuring an exclusive colored cover and feature with Aaron Horkey. Being that both Horkey and Pushead are longtime friends of the magazine, we consider this one of our special issues of the year.

What is a bit different in this Pushead issue is the wide-range of artists that he gathers from around the world. Comic book artists, street artists, stencil artists, fine artists, and album cover artists are all here, including Ashley Wood, Aryz, Lango, C215, Astro, Danijel Zezelj, Dan Seagrave, Phil Frost, Sugi, and Rockin' Jelly Bean.

The issue also features an exclusive making-of essay with SF-based Lango, as he prepares a special mural for the magazine.

And, each feature contains the artist's thumbprint... a Pushead stamp of approval.

SKINNER at Outside Lands...!!

SKINNER at Outside Lands...!!

True story: SKINNER sends me a message, "Where you live? I'm stranded in SF" I reply, "dude, i'm just below Twin Peaks, for reals" hahahaaha. Check out SKINNER at Outside Lands this weekend at Golden Gate Park.

OUTSIDER ART CURATED BY JUXTAPOZ

For 2011, Outsider Art will be curated by Juxtapoz Magazine to present an immersive aural and visual weekend. For 16 years Juxtapoz magazine has introduced some of the world’s most innovative artists, and with this year’s Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival we break new ground by bringing these artists and their work live to festival attendees. Music and food lovers will get the chance to explore exquisite installations in an expanded wooded festival space as they venture into Golden Gate Park to see original experiential creations by Juxtapoz favorites Mike Shine, Monica Canilao, Nicholas Krusyk and Tiffany Bozik. The middle of the Polo Fields will host live painting every day by Sam Flores, Nate Van Dyke, Chez, Apex, Aden Catalani, Eos Montana, Skinner and surprise guests.
