Secret Base x Convex x Sanrio x Doarat?? wtf?

The Japanese love their collaborations. In this case, we have a four way collab on a t-shirt. yes a t-shirt. It's Secret Base x Convex x Doarat x Hello Kitty. lol... That's a lot of designing power for one t-shirt. Still, i'm sure it will sell like crazy. You can get yours at EPROZE for 5,040 Yen each. Comes in Black or white. I still would like to see a Hello Kitty Figure with a removable Secret Base Skull Bee suit of some kind. I also wouldn't mind seeing a Convex Figure with a removable Skull Bee, Skull Brain, name your favorite fight figure suit.

Convex Kamen Rider Muton

Not sure if this is an upcoming Convex production Muton or not, but I like the concept. I suspect it's a custom. There needs to be more homages to Kamen Rider.

Secret Base @ Taipei Toy Festival 2009

Secret Base did not disappoint at TTF this year. I hope Hiddy saves some heat for SDCC...! Above is the elusive Golden Usugrow Rebel Ink. Once mythical, it was up for general release at TTF. Maybe some will show up at SDCC as well?

One of the more interesting collaborations is this Ron English x Secret Base MC Supersize figure. When it was just a weird looking Ron English self portrait dressed up like Ronald McDonald, it was a pass for me. But now in clear vinyl with a Skullhead Butt-esque Skeletal insert, it's all of a sudden cool. Just goes to show you that there is nothing that clear vinyl and a skeleton insert cannot fix. I wished someone would slap a bit of paint on these guys.





Convex x Secret Base Skullbee collab. What struck me about this pic, is how large it is. for some reason, I thought it was smaller. I think I like it more now, but it would have been infinitely cooler if the Skullbee head came off like a helmet. I know...damn production costs.





And finally a White Flocked Usugrow Salvation Ink. Hmmmm...not sure this one needed to be made.

New Secret Base x Convex Cyborg Spotted

spied on Secret Base, we have a new version of the tribute Cyborg with the classic metallic blue innards. Lovely. available now for 5,775 Yen.





While were on the subject of Convex x Secret Base... I spied this illustration on the back of the admission tickets for the Taipei Toy Festival on Vinylpulse and get all hot and bothered.



My dream was to have Convex size vinyl figures with removable suits for the Skull Bee, Skullbrain and Barbarian as you see here. They would totally be in scale with the Astro Mu tribute that has long ago released. But alas, this is not to be it seems for now. Luke from Lulubell Toys dug up these photos which leads us to believe that these are new micro mini figures. While not horrible, at least they are not like those Ultimate Battle figures. blah..





Well I think a lot of collectors would like to see suits to go on the Convex figures ala the Astro Mu tribute. Cause he's lonely and wants Skullbee, Skullbrain and Barbarian to come out and play

Fans Around the World Mourn Loss of Japanese Artist Hiro Grim

Yesterday was the funeral service for Japanese artist Hiro Grim. He was only 35 years old when he passed away last tuesday in Osaka of cancer. He will be missed by his many fans around the world.

Known for his artwork that sometimes paid homage to Jack Kirby and Jim Philips, Hiro Grim had a vivid imagination that lent itself well to header cards and T-Shirts for companies like Charatics, Secret Base and most recently, Convex. Hiro Grim also designed toys including the Secret Base Toxic and Death Phantom Suits, Secret Base 13th Day Skullbee and the incredibly rare "Henshin Petite Borg" Walder Tribute mini set.

Some Friends and Family were a bit surprised that there is interest outside of Japan for Hiro Grim, but we can assure you that he has a loyal following whose artwork has inspired many around the world. Rest in Peace.





















Hiro Grim was one of only four artists to collaborate on Secret Base's 13th "Day of Fear" Skullbee release sets. Hiro Grim's set came with a T-shirt bearing the same design as this flyer.





A few years ago, Hiro Grim made these tiny "Henshin Petite Borg" Walder Tribute sets all by hand. Only 50 sets exist. Incredibly rare...
