Jesus. Speed Racer is turning 40. That means any of you old enough to remember Speed Racer on TV are really dinosaurs. Speed Racer was one of my fondest memories as a wee lad. My sister used to sing the theme song to me at night. Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, gooooooooooo! Now it just sounds all too pornographic. yech, my sister! It's funny, I remember thinking the story, plotlines, graphics, everything were just so awesome. Then years later, I saw clips of Speed Racer at a hip club to the beats of techno music. I finally decided to buy the DVD with like the first 13 episodes. I have yet to finish it. Just wasn't the same. I thought the graphics sucked and the story too slow. After posting this, however, I am going to give it another chance and try to watch it again and see if I can avoid my childhood memories from being ruined.
Annnyyyyywaaaaaayyyyy, apparently at this years Toy Fest in NYC, they announced that a new Speed Racer series totally re-vamped and re-styled for today's kiddies is going to hit the airwaves this summer. Whoo hoo... I'm scared. Some things are better left undone, but I remain cautiously optimistic. Art Asylum has been tagged to produce the obligatory toy line which looks...interesting. I do like the silver Mach 5 however. That thing looks pretty cool. I'm most looking forward to the MiniMates that will be in the classic style of Speed Racer including vehicles such as the Mach 5 and Racer X's ride. Yay!!!Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Gooooooooooooooooo!
