spotted on the very cool blog Battle Grip is this awesome Perfect Effect custom Transformer. It comes in pink and blue, but costs a cool hundy. I love the way the motorcycle looks. In robot mode, it looks pretty damn nice too. My concern is that i've never ordered one of these Perfect Effect toys so I don't know how awesome they are. I'm sure it's pretty nice, but hows the engineering for the transformation? My fear is it's over complicated and too fragile with shit falling off at every turn.

South Korea's "Live Park" uses Microsoft Kinect sensors to create 3D Fantasy World

Just like being on the planet Pandora from Avatar, right?

We've seen Microsoft's Kinect show up in a number of unexpected places, and now it's being used to power a 3D theme park in South Korea. Created by interactive company D'strict, Live Park consists of 65 attractions spread out over 7 stages; RFID-enabled bracelets track users as they move from exhibit to exhibit, while Kinect sensors allow their motion and expressions to control virtual avatars within the park's wall installations, holograms and panoramic 3D projection screens. Even better, at night the entire park turns into a dance club.

Built at a cost of $13 million — and able to house 3,000 visitors at any given time — Live Park is more of a free-roaming exhibit than a theme park in the traditional sense, but it's proven so successful since its December debut that D'strict is extending its run at South Korea's Kintex exhibition center. This isn't a one-off, either: D'strict will be licensing Live Park to additional partners, with plans for permanent facilities in China and Singapore already in the planning stages. As for those of us in the US, the company has partnered with a "Hollywood entertainment powerhouse," and in March is expected to announce plans to bring a version of Live Park to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Just got my Boker Anso 67. I'm pretty damn stoked and surprised how much I dig this knife. Reason being is that i'm on the fence with my earlier Anso purchase which is the Haddock. it's cool, but not nearly as awesome as the 67. I love the sheep's foot blade shape and coffin handle. I need to replace the thumbstud with a hole ala the original. Check out the videos below for grail versions that I must have.

I have loved Jay222 since I met him. He has a sweet spirit and sculpting skill I really like... I was talking to him at a show at Dragatomi and threw out the idea that I wanted to do a fun little mini run of H.P. Lovecraft figures and make them real limited and special.. He was stoked and agreed! I sent him home with some weird Stuart Gordon adaptation films of Lovecraft stories... Sent him some sketches and he has been working hard ever since.. We are going to release a figure a month for about 7-8 months and there will only be 10 of each... He sculpts them and I hand paint them... They will all come with some cool little extras that make them special.. The first one comes witha little diorama and some tiny scaled down farmers, a kid and a protective dog... The first figure is the amorphous gaseous evil called "the colour out of space" one of my favorite stories by Lovecraft... These figures will be a sort of educational introduction to the strangeness and depth of weird horror that Lovecraft is the father of... The Colour out of Space is 5 inches tall by 5 inches wide and is horrible to behold.Watch it emerge out of the well and descend out into the ether!.. Stand it up, place the scenery behind it and put the scared puny mortals in front for a full scene of cosmic horror...

It is my understand that the exhibit where these shoes made their debut was not authorized or even involved PUSHEAD. This is unfortunate that PUSHEAD had nothing to do with this event and wasn't even contacted by the gallery or the curator. Also this shoe is not a "Bleached" version of the "Bruised" shoe that was released in 2006. This description according to the source is just wrong. Just like the Bruised version, this is a vegan shoe meaning no animal materials were used to manufacture the shoe.

Metropolis II Opens This Weekend at LACMA

I've posted about Chris Burden's magnificent kinetic sculpture called Metropolis II HERE. For those of you that live in SoCal, the good news is that it's opening at LACMA this weekend. More info and schedule HERE.

Here are a few stats on the piece:
o The cars are attached by a small magnet to the conveyor belt that brings them to the crest.
o The only motorization of the cars is the conveyor belt to the top.
o Once the cars cross over the crest and head downward, their entire movement is by gravity.
o They travel at a scale speed of 240 mph, plus or minus.
o The tracks they take are Teflon coated to reduce friction.
o The tracks are beveled at 7 degrees to give added torque for speed when
they come through corners and curves.
o The trains are out of the box electric train sets that run on electricity.

A couple of crappy cell phone pictures of the upcoming PUSHEAD x NIKE SB "Bleached" Dunk Low due out Fall 2012. This is a bleached version of the original "Bruised" Dunk released in 2006.

The shoe pays tribute to the custom garments Pushead created and wore with his band Septic Death. The artwork is a mix of prints and illustrations and will also be applied across the surf, skate and snow product lines. Now on display at Civilist Berlin as part of an installation organized by Juergen Bluemlein of the Skateboard Museum.

Future Colors of America formed in 2006 when San Francisco based Aiyana Udesen introduced her boyfriend and artist, Matt Furie, to her long time friend and also a San Francisco Art Institute alumnus, Albert Reyes (Los Angeles). Many hours were spent entertaining each other through visual drawing jokes. Many top-secret drawing techniques were traded. Many mysteries were solved/ created and, to keep the fun rolling, the trio began mailing back and forth unfinished drawings for the other(s) to complete. This routine of postal collaboration has led to approximately twenty-million pieces of art on mat board, bristol board, or book covers, depending on which artist started the work. For this show F.C.A. will be showing over one hundred new pieces with an emphasis on horror, Lindsay Lohan, and naked ladies. The first iteration of F.C.A. was showcased at Giant Robot in 2009 and the second at FFDG, July 2010. This is the third F.C.A. exhibition.

This "How To" video incorporates two of my favorite past times: Knives and Toys. In this case, this guy makes a ballistic knife out of a Pez Dispenser. I know, nuts right? It looks fairly powerful for what it is. What is a ballistic knife? It's a knife that was used by Russian Spetsnaz during the Cold War in which the blade shot out from the handle like bullet.

Onell Design Experiment Mechanics Division

I'm having challenges figuring out exactly what these new parts/figures called Experiment Mechanics Division from Onell Design are. I think they are blocks that could be customized as extra parts for your Rigs and/or WARP bikes. More info soon!

I personally hope you guys get a kick out of this strange new addition to the Glyos ranks. There is something about holding one of these things that brings back a flood of memories for me. From playing near the ocean with the rocks, to customizing Star Wars Mini Rigs, to flying around Micronauts capsules and even overloading the old M.U.S.C.L.E. plastic trash can with piles of tiny Godzilla figures.

The idea of chopping these up to customize might be a horror to some of you, so all black "Buildstation" style vinyl Blocks and parts will be online when these fully painted versions go live next week.

This is still an experiment, so we did not produce a ton of these. If the response is good, then we'll make more for the next drop (sometime in late March). There will be a run of matching Rigs and Rig Runners (Glyan WARP Bikes) available in this wave as well, for those of you still wondering about what the hell the Block is and what it does. Ha!

More details on the January 20th (next Friday) release will be up tomorrow, including prices, full assortment and more pics!

The next release date has been selected! This drop’s got quite a bit going for it as far as variety’s concerned. We’ve got heads, two packs, dyed six packs, airbrushed anomalies, hand painted glyos customs, the whole lot!

It all goes live this Saturday at 5pm EST. This release will be the debut of the clear anomalies. Evasive little critters! These are amazing for painting with Monster kolor or other airbrush paints. Clear gloss is a must!

What is the story behind your "Old School Heroes" series? How did Skeletor end up in a plaid suit?

These cartoons were always in my mind, when I was little I would draw all of them by hand, I just loved them, so one day it just came to me. Drawing He-Man in a flower suit, I just did it and the result was interesting and fun to me. So I keep digging in all these characters making them more fashionable, always wondering how will they look in cool suits and jackets and tight pants— hipster looks. I wasn't inventing something out of this world, just giving a little twist to things that were in my mind a long time ago.

A lot of your work incorporates space-like elements and fairy tale references as well as pop culture icons, where does your inspiration comes from?

I am like a sponge, very visual, I hate reading but love looking. My mind is full of these icons and these images. I love to mix the old with the modern, giving things that already exist a new fresh air, a new vision. I am working in these series, with Frida, Che Guevara and Dalí, it is the result of all these things that are in my mind. How would these great characters look today? This is the main idea of all of these. I mix them with all the images that are inside my head and it is like an explosion of images that I need to get out and put them together in one piece.

Korean Artist Do Ho Suh's "Floor" Installation

I like installations like this one by Korean artist Do Ho Suh. It uses thousands of tiny toy figures who are molded to hold a tremendous weight above their heads. The social commentary seems obvious in that the middle class is holding up the weight of the world on their hands. It is interesting that the tiny figures are dressed in Business Suits as opposed to the usual downtrodden blue collar workers. Perhaps it's a commentary on the recent financial crisis?

One of the most exciting contemporary artists of our time, Korean Do Ho Suh, created this large sculptural installation that doesn't look like much until you come closer. Glass plates rest on thousands of multicolored miniature plastic figures who are crowded together with their heads and arms turned skyward. Together, they are holding the weight of the individual visitor who steps onto the floor.

Currently showing at Lehmann Maupin's pop-up gallery at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI), Floor is one of those installations that's wonderfully thought-provoking. The figures represent the diverse and anonymous masses of people who support and/or resist the symbolic floor.

Custom Jumbo Getter Dragon SOC Colorway

Inspired by the legendary Matt Walker of Dead Presidents Designs and his awesome custom Jumbos, I decided to give it a try. More experiment than anything else. A number of lessons learned as well. It started when I began buying old Shogun Warriors on eBay and fixing them up a bit with aftermarket vinyl stickers. My Raideen and Mazinger came out reasonably well. But this Getter not only had a tear on the cape, it had a dark smudge on the right side. I tried in vain to clean the smudge (and the tear), but ended up just fucking it up. So I knew I had to re-paint it. So my lessons learned are 1. if you're going to customize a Jumbo, get one that isn't so fucked up. 2. either apply stickers after clear coat or paint the details. 3. go easy on the clear coat to avoid drips.

Anyways, it's looks pretty cool as long as you don't get too close to it. lol... I chose the Soul of Chogokin colorway as it appealed to me the most with the chrome arms, metallic blue chest and metallic orange bottom. I used chrome adhesive stickers for the arms and legs and of course, Monster Kolor for the paint. Next up: Shogun Warriors Gaiking..!

I can't say the trades were fast and furious, but I was able to pull off a new Secret Base Skullman trade with Bert. Highlights was hanging out with old friends and meeting new. One of the coolest things I've seen in a while is this artist's technique of painting on layers of poured acrylic resin. The result is incredible depth and 3D quality to his paintings of goldfish.

I finally got to check out the new retail store and gallery of Toy Art Gallery. I was blown away. It wasn't that long ago when Gino had his personal collection on display in that single room around the corner. I got to hang out with my buddy Connell who works there full time. Aaron, sorry I didn't get chance to see you...Anyways, it's my first time visiting the store/gallery and I couldn't believe how big the space is. The space in front is reserved for the gallery and at the time, Quim Tarrida's fantastic ceramic sculptures were on display. The rest of the space is dedicated to toys and art. A couple of things that make TAG unique: Gino has diverse tastes in toys and art. He likes Western toys and Japanese sofubi with equal passion. Gino also like BIG toys/sculptures as you can see. Gino might have one of your favorite toys made into a four foot fiberglass sculpture...! It's a fantastic place to browse around. I could spend hours just looking at everything. I say one of the best toy stores in the country.

Dale May Star Wars LEGO Show at Samuel Owen Gallery

Celebrity photographer Dale May wanted to do a fun project for himself so he turned to his passion around Star Wars LEGO figures and recently had a show at the Samuel Owen Gallery. I really like a few of these like the X-Ray Trooper above. But most of these are shots that you could take with your own camera and save a grand..!

The LEGO WARS series is a photographic study of popular culture, commercial advertising and nostalgia. Dragon Nunchucks by Pale Horse

These are awesome in that 70's old school way. Bruce Lee and "Enter The Dragon" made everyone want to be Chinese. But these guys are even more badass. They are laser engraved with dragons by artist Pale Horse.

My buddy Jeremy even thinks I should get a set:

Pale Horse decided to laser-engrave a small edition of hardwood nunchucks basically just because.

"The nunchaku feature a high quality laser engraved dragon design with a super tough ball-bearing swivel chain. Perfect for setting any naysayer straight."

There are only 10 of them at $50, and I can’t believe they’re still left. I would buy them, except I believe in peaceful protest (you know the kind that gets you pepper-sprayed in the face). I know there’s someone out there into weapons and design and Japanese imagery though. (Mr. Toybot Studios comes to mind.) Available here.

Tour of the New SF Offices of Hybrid Design and Super 7

After what has seemed like years and years, the brand new San Francisco Office of Hybrid Design and Super 7 are finally open. I got my first look at the new digs before the Holidays. Visited with Frank, Joe, Joshua, Brian and Dora..!

Located near downtown in the historic Jackson Square District of San Francisco. This is close to the original Barbary Coast. In these old brick and timber buildings that used to house brothels and liquor joints, it wasn't uncommon for you to drop through a trap door while waiting for a drink and awake the next morning on a ship bound for China. Literally where the term "Shanghai-ed" originated.

Upon entering, the first floor has rows of desks all out in the open with Brian and Dora's offices in back. It's a giant room. Since everyone wears ear phones so they can listen to whatever music they want, it was eerily quiet. I whispered when I greeted Joe, Frank and Joshua. The cool vinyl graphic on the front window is where the conference room is. When you're inside it, light shines through the graphic and provides this surreal wonderland vibe during meetings.

Brian and Dora purchased the building and pretty much gutted the entire thing. Their mid-century design skills are evident everywhere especially upstairs. There is a little kitchen area, library/lounge sitting and a big conference table. I would love to have this space in my house. It's awesome. Outside a deck brings the outside indoors and provides a ton of natural light. I would be hanging out upstairs all day long.

Congratulations to Brian, Dora and all the crew at Hybrid Design and Super 7 for their new offices. Really awesome space. Thanks for the tour Joe..!

David Flores x Hell Fire Deathead Revealed...!!

Laurie Lipton's Love Bite

Ever since Laurie's most famous illustration "Love Bite" went on sale as a print over at The Loyal Subjects, I haven't been able to shake the image out of my head. It's unnerving but really resonates with me on a couple of levels. First, the lady is clearly asian. I've seen her. You see her everytime you go to Chinatown. Those eyes will cut you. I can see the wiry, over-processed hair from too many bad dye jobs. Secondly, I'm always kissing, nibbling and gnawing on my kid's cheeks. It's a weird animalistic thing. But there is no love shown in this illustration. As if the baby's head was an apple. It's horrific and fantastic at the same time. Still available as a 24"x34" print for $199 at the link above.

wow, the Paul Kaiju train of sofubi goodness keeps on chugging and i'm loving it. Paul posted up this pic of his final sculpt of the new Mock Bat before sending to Japan to receive it's vinyl treatment. PK says the tongue will be articulated, the belly flower will spin. It's a bit shorter than the Boss Carrion, but wider. This new toy from Paul will surely be an immense hit with the fans.

In what could be the last show at Gargamel's THRASHOUT in Koenji, they went big to close out 2011. A massive custom show featuring all your favorite Gargamel artists on all your favorite Gargamel toys. Really wish I could have been there in person. Everything looks fantastic, but highlights for me are the full size Deathra with guts painted by Naoya and Chanman.

Even though Gargamel painted extra toys to be sold to the International market, everything has since sold out. More Deathras with guts please..!

Supposedly an demo of quantum levitation on a track inspired by the Playstation Classic "Wipe Out". Is it real or some kind of lame viral marketing ad for an upcoming new version of "Wipe Out"? I say totally ass fake. First of all, it would look more real if those stupid vapors didn't come out the back of the vehicles. The motion of the vehicles is poorly done. I mean, it's not even a good fake.

3A x Bandai ZAKU Launches in 2 Days..!!

The much anticipated 3A x Bandai ZAKU goes on pre-sale January 5th @ 5:00 pm PST at Bambaland. It was announced the other day that there is only one colorway which you see here and it will be selling for $330.00. It's about $80 more than I thought it was going to be, but not all that surprised since Bandai has to get paid as well. I am surprised that there is only one colorway. I thought for sure there was going to be like five different versions. I was looking forward to a Nightwatch version for sure. But perhaps too much like the Mastermind collaboration?. Anyways, I am going to gamble that there will be other colorways. There has to be. This is an expensive toy to produce so the law of toys dictates more colorways. Ashley also confirmed a Mazinger and perhaps a Gundam in the works, but the Zaku has to sell first. I say skip the Gundam and go straight for the Mazinger..! Better yet, skip Mazinger and go right to Grendizer complete with Spazer...!!
