Alex Zavaleta Hosts the BEST SDCC 2010 Video...!

alex sdcc2010

This year our intrepid host Alex Zavaleta searches for the perfect girl at San Diego Comic Con. This girl would ideally be easy on the eyes, not in costume, not being paid to be there and single. Difficult catch? maybe...

Brand Loyalty Custom Big Plastic figures by Paul Kaiju...!!!

Paul Kaiju custom Brand Loyalty toys

The custom painted figures from the Dead Presidents post earlier are from a company called Brand Loyalty. The line of figures is called Big Plastic. Thanks Chris. But they are not plastic toys at all. Beautiful, heavy and sometimes articulated resin figures.

I don't know how I missed these, but Paul Kaiju also painted up a set of these awesome figures. A few are still available so hit up PK by going to his link above. I wish I could have both custom sets next to each other.

Super7 was a beehive of activity in the so-called "Toy Growers Cultyard" at SDCC 2010. Several signings and releases made this booth a must stop for any toy collector into Western or Japanese vinyl.

Kikaida actor Mr. Ban Daisuke to Appear at Anime Jungle in LA..!

KikaidaJungle

oh, man. Blast of my childhood. If I could attend this, I totally would. Kikaida RULES...!!!!

via: The Good, The Bad, and Godzilla

Los Angeles' own Anime Jungle, purveyors of everything from anime to tokusatsu in Little Tokyo, is proud to be presenting two autograph sessions with Mr. Daisuke Ban, popular star of KIKAIDA, KIKAIDA 01, INAZUMAN and BATTLE FEVER J, for the upcoming 70th Annual "Nisei Week Japanese Festival". Back in the mid-1970s, the local broadcasts of KIKAIDA took Hawaii by storm, and the series was subsequently aired on Japanese language stations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other US cities. KIKAIDA made a strong return to Hawaii back in 2001, and is still going strong — even outside of the Islands — due to the successful release of the English subtitled DVDs produced by JN Productions and Generation Kikaida.

Sideshow Collectibles at SDCC 2010...!

Sideshow Toys SDCC 2010

The sheer magnitude in Sideshow Collectibles at SDCC never disappoints. From the huge presense to the huge figures, Sideshow is for hardcore collectors with money to burn... I would love to pick up their stuff, but something that always holds me back is the fact that these collectibles are not toys, they are essentially statues...usually with bases for display and ogling only. Even though my toys are usually only on display, I do like to pick them up and play around with them. Even if it's just simple articulation.

Square Enix Figures at SDCC...!!

Square Enix SDCC 2010

Square Enix is becoming quite the force in hyper-detailed 12" figures. They are giving Hot Toys a bit of a run for their money. At around $50 each, they are affordable compared to Hot Toys or stuff at Sideshow Toys. They are really glorified action figures in 1/6 scale. That's cool with me. They came with the new MGS Peace Walker figures. Ver.Zero was sold out by the time I got there, but I did manage to pick up the regular version Big Boss which is an impressive toy. I also really liked the Halo Reach toys. It's nice to see variation from the boring Master Chief aesthetic.

The Crossover at the Global Figure Symposium SDCC 2010

Global Figure Symposium Crossover SDCC 2010
One of my only pictures of Don...

I think one of the most interesting events this year was the tiny booth that seemed to hold a small army of artist and toy makers. Spearheaded by Matt Doughty of Onell Design and Datadub of Fig-Lab, this year's Crossover event for the Global Figure Symposium was the hot ticket. I'm guessing around 20-25 artists from both the US and Japan were represented. Every couple of hours, the table was cleared and another artist would put up their wares. I found myself going back to this booth over and over (as evidenced by the last six posts showing other artists sharing this booth).

SUCKLORD, The Tarantulas and Eerie Theory at SDCC 2010...!

Sucklord, Eerie Theory, Tarantulas at SDCC 2010
The Sucklord and Princess Precious

While everyone already knows The Sucklord. I mean seriously, does he even need to sell toys anymore? I was there just to check out the Princess.... anyways... one of the best things about SDCC is meeting new artists and discovering new toys. Jessie DeStasio is the perfect example. While I've seen his tank dude before, he brought a bunch of pieces based on the Onell Glyos platform that just blew my mind. In particular his Tin-Robo. The tiny helmet that he drilled out of a Glyos head reveals Tin Tin's head..! Tin Tin x Robocop.. get it?

The Tarantulas is another artist / design shop that does Onell collaborations for his Nibbler line. This is a terrible picture of the new head that will hopefully be produced soon. My only issue with The Tarantulas is that he doesn't produce enough of these rad toys.

Sean with the new female ape. That's a beehive on her head of course...!

Sean and Cliff from one of the resin pioneers MonstreHero really stepped it up this year for SDCC. A bunch of new sculpts, better, brighter colorways and some nice articulation / accessorization with their toys. Bringing back the fun, resin are not just statues, they are toys too!

Real x Head at SDCC 2010...!!!!

RxH at SDCC 2010

For me, it was all about RealxHead this year at SDCC. I was getting a bit disenchanted with the toys this year until Mori busted out the goods. Between the lame exclusives from the mainstream toy companies to the expensive customs, it was a bit touch and go. Mori made it right by surprising us all with a huge variety of new toys and sculpts. Large figures were going for $65..! Normal size figures were going for $45..! Significantly lower than US retail. RxH fans were in heaven...!!! I walked away with like 8 figures for $300. Score of the Con. Period.
